Matariki

Recently Room 7 have been researching about Matariki and we have all so created the Matariki Sky. A interesting fact about matariki is that the Maori people believed the brighter the stars, the better the crop will be that year.

Trip to the Marae:

07/07/16 - Visit to the Marae
I was so excited because the whole school was going to the Marae in Glen Innes and I had never been there before, only at my own Marae. As we were walking towards the Marae, I thinking about my Karanga / Powhiri that I was going to do, before we entered the Marae.

In this Photo I am preparing for my Karanga
with Mrs. Tui

When we got there I was worried and scared I was going to forget a word or miss pronounce it, because that was the worst thing that could happen, as I started I felt more confident and at the end, I was no longer scared, then we removed our shoes and entered the Marae.

Then the Chief of the Marae stood up and said some words, then  2 boys from our class, Room 7 stood up and said some words in Maori and then English, after them it was our principal’s turn, he said thank you on behalf of our school, then the 10 people in front and me went up to hongi the people of that marae.

After that we all went outside, put on our shoes and we had some food to eat, only a bit, then we went and explored, Me, Von, Henrietta, Malia, Luisa, Stanley and other students played Pukana, after that we were all called into the hall.
This is our class outside
the Marae

When we were in the hall, Where Whaere taught us some more words and the meaning / story of their Marae and it’s name Ruapotaka, she also told us our pepeha, it’s like a introduction of who you are and where you come from.

After that we were put with our soul friends, first we were making a flower with flax, then we went back into the Marae and sang a waiata.
This is us singing the
Waiata

Then we had Lunch and we played again. Then we had a big chat with the people from that Marae. Then we got onto the bus and we went to tech, but the other classes stayed.

31/05/16 - Science Road show

I was really excited because we were about to go to Tamaki College for a science road show. Only Room 7 and 5 were going to the show and we went by car from some of the parents who volunteered, I was in Mrs Tui’s car with Faleaka and Courtney, I was sitting in the front seat looking out the window it started raining, I thought in my head luckily we didn't walk. We arrived at Tamaki College ,but we weren't sure where the science tour show was, we went inside the Auditorium and when we walked in we saw a board with cans and sugar next to it. It showed how much sugar was in 4 cans, 10 cans and then a whole bunch of cans. When we walked inside the room, I saw lots of boards and strange items all around the room. Then a lady did an experience about absorbing and she had 3 tubes of green water and she did a little test, then we went out to explore the stations of experiments. There was so many to explore, first I went to the Double Wave and at that station you see 2 containers on a wall filled with colourful water and there was a handle. I pushed it up and down, it made waves even though the handle was only on the bottom container, it was connected and it looked the same. After exploring so many experiences a bell rang and we came back and we went back and sat in our seats, we looked at the man and some people did the Extra Experiments competition and the winners were Rosrine and Kainesini, they got a dinosaur printed by the 3d printer that was there. Then they started doing some interesting experiences and I learned more about Sound and how it travels through air, I was really amazed. Then when we finished we had a little recap of what we had learned, then we went outside and we all went back to school.

Descrptive Writing: Mother's Day

A mother is a person who gives you new life and raises you to be the person you are today.

A mother will do anything she can to provide shelter, food and love all for you, she will go past all limits for her precious child.

When you get older you start to fight and argue with you mum then she roars at you like a lion, but keep in mind what she has done for you, all that hard work and stress for you, she might make you annoyed or confused, but she just wants the best for her precious child.

I have a mother and she loves me more than anything, she is so special to me, she is my role model, she is kind, Caring, Creative and Affectionate.

But some mother’s aren’t perfect, they make mistakes and have some flaws, but they care for you with all their heart

Like I love my mum with all my heart and no one will ever tear us apart, she is the reason why our family is together, she is my lovely mother.
